Bob and I discussed this scenario last night and reached the conclusion that I am the attacker (with the smaller fleet) and Damon is the defender (with the larger fleet).

Battle Results

The Stalker-class explorers Longshot and Shattershot engaged a light force of Hawkwood vessels in orbit around the savage world Spearpoint. They were able to determine the force consisted of two frigates and an explorer, but the Longshot was destroyed by the Hawkwood frigates before more extensive scans could be completed. Seeing the veteran ship destroyed, the green crew of Shattershot turned and ran, firing random pot shots as they sought to flee for deep space.

The Hawkwood ships chased, crippling the Shattershot and landing a critical hit against her engines (1/9 hp remaining). Thankfully the ship was able to flee the battlefield before the next devastating wave of missiles annihilate her.

Yeah, that's a pretty rough scenario.

Now remember, Damon. You can't use the ships you used against Ken in our battle. So your 3 Destroyers and 1 of your Scouts are all available for our battle.

Yeah, it pretty much sucks all around. I think it *might* be doable if you had stealth ships, which would at least have a chance of avoiding the incoming weapons fire. I was able to get off 3 or 4 scans, but all of them failed. In theory if I got *really* lucky I would have been able to win by scanning Damon's three ships and then running, but I blew all my luck on initiative rolls. :)

I'd like this scenario more if it was more complex -- maybe the defending ships have to watch a strategic location and can't move more than 24 inches away from it. Maybe all you need to do is scan the target, rather than the ships. Or maybe, you know, there could be some freaking terrain to hide behind!

I'm not bitter -- I knew it was going to suck going in, and I only lost an explorer. It *might* work if you had enough fleet points to be able to buy stealth ships and some heavier vessels to provide cover, but even then I think it would be tough.

Damon, do you have any availability for our battle this weekend? My house would be preferable but I might be able to meet at your place.

Sunday I have the kids.

So here is how things stand for me right now:

XP Dice: Destroyed an enemy ship of the same or lower points value than your ship (1), Crippled an enemy ship (1/2, rounds to 0), on winning side of battle (2 for each ship, so 6). So each ship gets 2 XP dice, and my regular frigate gets 1 XP die.

RR Points: 8 (base received per turn, declining by 2 as someone will control the jumpgate), plus capture of a strategic target (10), plus battle won (5), plus Spearpoint (2), for a total of 25 RR points so far.

I'll edit this with the results from the game with Bob.

Yes, I'm dredging old posts in eager anticipation of finally getting our campaign going.

To that end, Damon, you will only lose 2RR if Lance secures the Jumpgate. If I were to deny him that victory, I receive a flat 10 RR, but not control. Feel free to sabotage any Kurgan vessels before combat begins.

No problem. I just poured sugar into Lance's gas tank. Take THAT!

Silly Decados - our spaceships run on sugar!

Sorry I've been too busy to properly keep up with the campaign. I have way too many hobbies, and this has also been a very busy season for us in general. Things are winding down though.

Tom, I don't think I can do Turn 1 pre-game this week - Zack is marching in the Halloween parade, and I may even be shanghai'ed into playing bass drum. Again, time will free up soon!
