Gleemax: Is this what they killed Dragon/Dungeon for?

Post by NukeHavoc »

First, the news from gaming report:

* Wizards of the Coast Announces Launch of Gleemax Online Community
http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=23711

Second, the site itself:

* Gleemax
http://www.gleemax.com/

Third ... lame. Lame, lame, lame. And if this is what they killed Dragon/Dungeon for ... [scream of uncontrollable rage]

I'm not so sure this is to do a "replacement" for Dragon, since it seems the content is geared towards "strategy" games (I'm assuming Magic and the like). Still, I didn't "get" the website within the first 5 seconds of looking, so even I give this one a pass (IMHO, if it doesn't grab you right away, then its usefullness is limited...)

Talk on twitter says it's not the Dragon-slayer. It's supposed to be a gaming community for all gamers, but focused on Magic and its kin. But it's still got a very high lameness score.

Well, even with the caveat that "phase 1" isn't going to launch until GenCon so i wouldn't expect a whole lot on the site just now, i still have to agree that this is very likely the lamest thing WotC has done in a long time (cancellation of DM tools and the character generator were some of the first ultra-lame moves).

And really, I think the name is a significant contributor to the lameness. The premier gaming company, creating the uber gaming community, content and strategy site, drawing from the rich history of all of their gaming properties and the best they can come up with is:

Glee. Max.

If that doesn't signify the death of gaming creativity, I don't know what would.

[Chops Bob in the forehead with his Gleam Axe] :D

Yeah, with a dorky name like that I'm not going to even bother clicking on the link...
