I'd rather not; all my M&M books (heck, I think almost everyone's books) are 2E, and I'd really rather not go backwards. I think there are ways to create simpler characters within the 2E ruleset, and if we start lower anyway (e.g. PL 5 or PL 6) then we're going to have a lot fewer powers to deal with. With our first run of M&M we essentially jumped into the game at 10th level, which would be a challenge for any game. :)

I don't think it is. I think it's just not as well defined as 2e, but the system is essentially the same. I think the problem with the system is that it is so open if you start from scratch you can quickly get lost in all the details. My character started as an archetype and I modified the powers to suit my needs. You don't have to go this route, but it sure makes creating a character easier.

Well, there's always GURPS.

Damon, what?

You know, in my long gaming "career", I have never once played Gurps - or even read a rulebook.

(Yikes - ~33 years and counting as an RPG player - I should never do the math...)

If we went to a different system I'd prefer going to Savage Worlds. We already know that system.

Me too -- they even just released a new Supers Companion book with the rules from Necessary Evil.

I'd love to run GURPS some day too (I have the 4E books, but never played it) but not for supers.

Either way. I am MUCH more inclined to play a supers game under SW than M&M. If you recall, Ken, the reaction you had to character building in Battletech RPG, it is the same as I had in M&M.

Except we didn't need an advanced degree in calculus to figure out M&M, we just had to figure out the complex system :P

Forgot about that actually, but it's been, what 2 years since we last played Infinity Storm?

Based on Twitter, it seems the Super Hero Companion might see print by Origins, though the Explorer's Edition of Necessary Evil is out now:

I think Savage Worlds has the potential to be a good fit for superheroes, particularly if the powers allow for exceptional results on die rolls. Not as crunchy as M&M or GURPS to be sure, but it might work with our group.

But when are you going to need four beholders on the table at once? This is a questionable decision. (I hope.)
