Mass Effect 3

Post by erilar »

I'm wondering how many of you will be interested in the multiplayer stuff in Mass Effect 3?

Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to get it for Xbox or PC. If you guys will want to do the coop multiplayer stuff, then I'll get it on Xbox.

"Enhanced for Kinect" is one draw, but enhanced with awesomer PC graphics is also a big tease...

Coming out for the PC you say...

I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't figured out some sort of cross compatability between the PC & the Xbox for online play...

MS did make a go of the Live service on PC, but really screwed the pooch and everyone hated it.

Also want to point out that, in true Damon fashion, you didn't actually answer my question...

I haven't beaten 2, so I'm in no hurry to get 3, but I'm interested in the multiplayer.

Though, wouldn't you want it on xbox anyway? To continue the story?

I'm interested in ME 3 but I did 2 in the PC. Dammit. I don't know, I'll think about it. I don't have a ton of time to play anyway.

At the beginning of ME2, they gave you the option of answering a bunch of questions to make your story the same. Plus, there's a huge database of ME2 saves for PC online, in pretty much every configuration you can imagine.

The only thing I'd really miss is my Shepard's face, which I customized and would never be able to duplicate, haha!

I'll more than likely get it on Xbox for all these reasons. Otherwise, my Kinect is pretty much collecting dust anyways - all the other games have been - let's say "less than compelling".

But it would look really pretty on the new PC...

The answer then is probably not. I wasn't super impressed with ME1: I felt it couldn't decide if it was an RPG or a FPS, and that hurt the game in my eyes. Plus the storyline wasn't compelling enough. IMHO I've never been a big fan of console gaming systems, and the controls they make you use. I have RPG games for the Xbox I've never finished (like the Kotor series) for just this very reason. I've even looked at buying the Kotor games for the PC, because mouse/trackball is so much easier to manipulate than an Xbox controller, and more accurate too...

I loved Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, so yes, I am getting Mass Effect 3, and I'd be interested in co-op.

Wow, I'm really surprised to hear you say that about the story. I know you like hard scifi, and I would have thought you'd really dig this setting and story. I read the prequel novel and the follow up by Drew Karpshyn (sp), who was the lead writer for ME1, and I thought they and the game story were very compelling.

Re the game genre, why does it have to be in a box - one or the other? I actually liked ME1's mechanics the best, since it was more of a hybrid. ME2 was more of a shooter, and streamlined/dropped a lot of the crunchy RPG stuff. Granted, ME1 had its problems (the inventory system for one), but I liked the fact that it was a hybrid. Thinking back, I guess the shooting was a bit kludgy in the 1st one.

You may not want to now after being spoiled by the graphics in TOR, but you can probably get the KotOR games for a song on Steam, and those will have PC controls.

Lance, when I talk about mixing genres, it's not so much the ability to have conversations or "quests;" I'm really talking about the combat gameplay.

As for Drew, I have to say I've been reading his Star Wars novels, and kind of find them a little flat, FWIW...

I'll be getting ME3 for the xbox, and am very looking forward to continuing the story and doing a bunch of the multiplayer stuff.
