Madigan Class Gunship

I was playing around with the Starship creation rules while watching the Steelers today and I built another ship. :)

The Gunship is a Colossal size ship, which is the same size as a Transport. Here are the base stats:
Str 50, Dex 14, Int 16
Speed 12/3
HP 150, DR 15
Armor +12
Crew 4, Passengers 4
Cargo 5 tons
Consumables 1 month
Emplacement points: 20!!!

So here's how I modified the stock gunship. :)

According to the starship rules on page 53 of Starships of the Galaxy, if you worsen a starting category by 25% or 50% you gain 10% or 20% more starting Emplacement Points, respectively. So by reducing the allowed Passengers from 4 to 2 gives me 4 more Emplacement Points, which will be necessary for weapons. Similarly, by reducing the Cargo Capacity from 5 tons to 2.5 tons we gain 4 more Emplacement Points and by increasing the required crew from 4 to 6 we gain 4 more points. :)

Additional Equipment:
Combat Thrusters, 1 EP
Hyperdrive, Class 5, 2 EP
Maneuvering Jets, +6, 4EP
Navicomputer, Limited, 0 EP
Armor +2, 5 EP
Shields, SR 50, 3 EP
Sensor Array, +6, 3 EP
Escape Pod, 1 EP
19 EPs used

That leaves me 13 Emplacement Points for weapons, which allowes me to add these:
(Pilot) Medium Laser Cannon (Double, Point Defense) 5d10x2, 1 EP
(Gunner) Turbo Laser, Light (Quad) 5d10x5, 3 EP
(Gunner) Turbo Laser, Light (Quad) 5d10x5, 3 EP
(Gunner) Medium Laser Cannon (Quad, Point Defense) 6d10x2, 2 EP
(Gunner) Light Concussion Missile Launcher 7d10x2, 2 EP
(Gunner) Light Consussion Missile Launcher 7d10x2, 2 EP

The adjusted stats are these:
Size: Colossal (Combat Thrusters allow starfighter dogfighting and impose penalty to opposing capital ships)
Str 50, Dex 20, Int 22
Reflex 19, Fort 30, Threshold 80
Speed 12/3
HP 150, DR 15, SR 50
Armor +14
Crew 6
Passengers 2
Cargo 2.5 tons
Consumables 1 month
Base Attack Bonus +6

I think the ship you posted would definitely be a corvette, especially with 1 month consumables and a crew of 4. A gunship in the star wars universe is in my miind more along the lines of a heavy fighter (like the Bf.110 or Me.210 and Me.410, or maybe the Hs.129 and IL-2 Sturmovik.

Nope, this is definitely a 'gunship' class vessel. In the Starships of the Galaxy book, the 'corvette' class vessel has these stats:

Size: Colossal (frigate)
Str 110, Dex 18, Int 16
Speed -/3
HP 600
DR 15
Armor +12
Crew: 50
Passengers: 200
Cargo: 2,000 tons
Consumables: 1 yr
Emplacement Points: 20
Stock Cost: 1,000,000cr

So regardless of real life corallaries, in the Saga system, I built a custom gunship and a corvette is a whole other thing.

I looked at these and they seem similar to the Saga classification of Superiority Fighter or Bomber.
A Corvette is a capital ship, and IMO the capital ships are more analogous to naval vessels.

Also, in the SW universe, the 'gunship' is a ship the size of a light freighter (Colossal), but one that's designed and intended to be a warship, so it has a lot of space for offensive and defensive systems. So it's about the size of the Regress but designed from the ground up as a warship with limited cargo space, which is all given over to guns.

So the discussion about ships last night was that we needed something beefier than the Regress for the Mandalorian Wars. We started talking about gunships and I retooled this design a little. :)
