November 26, 2010 Game - Evacuation Epilogue

Post by NukeHavoc »

Task Force Relentless fled the Vargis Tau system 24 hours ahead of the Mandalorian invasion force. The fleet, consisting of a ragtag mix of civilian transports, Republic warships, and a Neimoidian battle freighter managed to evacuate everyone who wanted to leave, though a few brave (or foolish) souls refused to abandon their homes.

The evacuation was a desperate one, as many of the refugees had to liquidate everything they owned (up to and including selling themselves into indentured servitude) in order to be able to afford a seat on the Profit Seeker, the Neimoidian starship. The crew of Binary Transports did everything they could to undermine the Neimoidians, including converting their ships to civilian transports, trying to convince the Ithorians of the visiting herdship Dream of the Forest to carry refuges, and arguing for the Commodore to declare martial law, but nothing was able to save the Neimoidian passengers from being exploited.

Nothing, that is, save the noble sacrifice of a Jedi.

Desperate to find a way to get the refuges offworld without resorting to the Neimodian scum, Quest Fios queried the Holocron of Zend, searching the artifact for some means of transportation that could get the refuges to safety. He found reference to a space/time portal generator inside of a pyramid on Zebulon Prime.

Quest traveled there, hoping that it might be the key to providing the masses with a means of escape (to the planet at the other end of the portal) or a resource the Ithorians might be willing to trade for (the coordinates of said planet, assuming it was rich with life). He went alone, as his companions remembered all to well the portal at the Spires of Xax on Ryloth ... and the unknown fate of Lornn Varri, the last Jedi to pass through it.

Upon arrival, he found three large crystal pillars, just where the holocron said they would be. They were guarded by three fearsome humanoid lizard creatures, which proceeded to attack him as he carried out the force ritual needed to activate the pillars. Quest Fios did the best he could, activating two of the three pillars, but finally fell beneath the deadly claws of the creatures. His last memory was his right arm being ripped from its socket by one of the lizard's razor-sharp teeth.

He awoke to find himself in a cave, surrounded by the decaying flesh of the creatures' kills. Groggy from the loss of blood, he managed to sneak out of the temple and climb into his starfighter. His astromech droid then flew him back to the fleet, where surgeons on one of the Republic medical cruisers were able to stablize him.

Once there, word spread that the Jedi had traveled to Zebulon Prime on a secret mission to save the colony, but had fallen in the attempt. No one knew exactly what he was trying to accomplish -- some said he was seeking an ancient relic from a Zebian ruin, some said he was attempting to find a potent Force foci that could be used to deter the Mandalorian fleet, still others said he was on a mission for the Ithorians.

All were grateful for the attempt, and some found guilt gnawing at their consciences.

Giles Waray, the overworked, overstressed starport Jolus administrator realized that he'd played apart in the Jedi's misfortune. Perhaps if he'd helped Binary Transports with their "health inspection" gambit, he might have been able to help force the Neimoidians to re-negotiate their contracts. Arrick Jinn, attache to Commodore Gar Stazi, wondered if there wasn't something more that he might have done to help the refuges. And even Commodore Stazi wondered if this might not have been the time for the Republic to make a small sacrifice of liberty in the name of justice.

At Taris, Giles Waray filed a report with the local starport recommending a health inspection of Profit Seeker. Arrick Jinn, who remembered Binary Transports desperate request for technicians to carry out the selfsame inspections on Zebulon Beta, used his authority to check the starport's job queue ... and smiled when he saw Waray's request. He made sure the Commodore saw it ... and Staziin turn brought the matter up with the Admiral.

Taris, always paranoid of a disease outbreak in the Upper City, sent an inspection crew to the Profit Seeker. They found the ship's holds infected Brainworm Rot Type A, the presence of which violated an obscure portion of the Safe Passage Act from 2,000 years earlier.

The Admiral declared the Nemoidians contracts null and void for having failed to adequately protect their passengers from infection. Furious but powerless to act, the Neimodian assemblyman Hath Gunray released passengers from his holds and their contracts. He did not suffer the indignity of having to pay for their medical treatment quietly, cursing the meddling Binary Transports personnel in fluent and profane Huttese.

For once, the bureaucracy worked. All because of the actions of a single Jedi.

The Ithorian researchers aboard the Dream of the Forest were largely unmoved by the Jedi's action, not carrying about the sacrifice of a single sentient when the biological splendor of the entire sector was about to be ravaged by the Mandalorians. One member of the herd felt differently. Iiluum Saldith, a young researcher who'd always had an intuitive connection to the lifeforms he tended felt, Quest's cry of pain and desperation as he fell on Zebulon Prime. That cry haunted him all the way to Taris, and when the herdship stopped for re-supply, he left the ship

He traveled to the hospital in the Upper City where Quest was recovering after having a new, cybernetic arm installed. "Master Fios," he said, as he walked into the room. "I am humbled by your actions, and shamed by the herd's refusal to freely help at Zebulon. The Warden ... the warden was wrong. You have shown me that there is wisdom that lies beyond the herd. I am willing to learn ... if you are willing to teach."

Yeah, AWESOME job Damon... I know we busted your balls at the table, but that was mostly "in character". THIS is what being a Jedi should be about: self sacrifice, standing alone for what is right when no one else will, come what may.

Yeah, the legend of Quest Fios grows and grows. Sounds like a great session - sorry I missed it, but here's to seeing the great QF in action again soon. *raises glass*
