Another Shuttle Design

I was looking at the J-1 shuttle from Legacy Era (pgs 88-89). I like it a lot. It's got a lot of cargo space and passenger capacity, plus it carries one starfighter. Good for Maddox off on his own when I can't play.

Here are the base stats:

I would modify it like so:

Required Crew increase to 3 +2 emplacement points
-60 tons cargo = +12 emplacement points
reduction to 10 passengers = +2 emplacement points
remove double laser cannons = +1 emplacement point, -18,000cr
remove Shields 25 = +1 emplacement point, -7,500cr
remove hyperdrive class 2 = 3 emplacement points, -25,000cr
(50,500cr cheaper)
total: +20 emps

Additions
Equipment
Combat Thruster: 1 emp, 10,000cr
Maneuvering jets +4: 3 emps, 25,000cr
Hyperdrive x3: 2 emps, 6,000cr
Med Suite: 1 emp, 15,000cr

Defense
Shields, SR 45: 2 emps, +20,000cr
Armor +2: 5 emps, +25,000cr
Reinforced Bulkheads +10%: 2 emp, +10,000cr

Maybe make the Blaster Cannons into Laser Cannons, Blasters have shorter range.

I started figuring cost and some of the additions were ridiculously expensive (like the Sensor computer and enhanced sensor array and the quad guns), so I removed them.

The result is a much more reasonably priced ship. :)

Yeah, but we're not buying it :-) We're just borrowing it for this next mission or so, then we have to give it back. I figured it would be a good story element to have a sweet executive shuttle loaned out for this mission, so we (well, Lanigiro anyway) woud have the added pressure of not scraping up the ship to badly, or else he'd have some 'splaining to do.

Absolutely. I should have been more clear. I'm not proposing this ship for our mission to investigate the Vengence. I like your shuttle for that mission. But since I can't reliably make it to the game, even every other week, sometimes Maddox is going to be off in the Outer Rim, possibly with Revan and/or Malak, taking the fight to the Mandos. :)

This ship would be useful towards that end. It has some cargo space, some survivability, decent weapons and it can carry a starfighter.

Maybe after this mission, the modified J-1 would be one we would "lease" from BT, pilot and all, for future missions.

I think the x3 hyperdrive is too slow, especially when you consider that Maddox is using this to fly back and forth from the Outer Rim or Mandalorian Space back to the mid-Rim. While the x3 is in line with some of the BT transports, I think x2 would be better for Maddox's purposes.

Well, I suppose it depends on what it's being compared to. And what the default speed was in the KoTOR era. Starships of the Galaxy lists Class 2-3 as being standard during most of the Rise of the Empire period, and Class 1 was the pinnacle of stable hyperdrives from the Clone Wars forward.

But I'm totally cool with keeping the Class 2 drive. In fact here's my wishlist. :)

Medium Ion Cannon, Quad, Enhanced, Point Defense, 4emp, 34,000cr? (8d10x2)
Sublight Drive, Speed 5sq, 6emp, 100,000cr
Hyperdrive Class 2, 3emp, 25,000cr
Light Concussion Missile Launcher, 2emp, 10,000cr
Backup Battery, 0emp, 50,000cr


I have a question, though. For all of the starship equipment you're supposed to multiply the equipment cost by the ship's cost multiplier. But does that apply to weapons, too? If so that makes ship weapon modifications ridiculously expensive. Just one could triple or quarduple the cost of the ship!

For example, a medium laser cannon is 4,000cr, base. Install it on a light freighter and it's 20,000cr. That alone is as much as some used ships. But make it a quad gun? Now it's 100,000cr!! And the Falcon had TWO of them! When Han was friggin broke and Jabba was having him killed over a paltry 15,000cr! lol! (stupid SW economy!!)

Costs depend on whether the equipment is listed with a multiplier or not... if it has no multiplier, then it is a fixed cost.
