You're lucky to even be able to plant your butt in one of them...one of them you lost! Used to be 1350 of those laying around, now I guess there's 1349, right?

Lenny the mech mechanic and sometime mech jock, having watched this whole exchange with interest, decides it's time to speak up.

"Yeah, and that's a strange comment for someone who doesn't like violence, boss" he says, tapping a large wrench against his leg.

"See, maybe this conversation is about airlocks after all. About which of us are going to be on the inside when we're done talking, and which of us aren't. No one likes feeling they've been cheated, see, especially after risking their life for a job..."

Deception 6+d20
(he doesn't really want to brain his boss and airlock him, but sees the wisdom in solidarity amongst the crew while negotiating)

Damon, I'm making a knowledge: tactics, knowledge: galactic lore check, knowledge: technology, and a pilot check. In the Btech universe is it super impossible to 'hijack' a dropship. Are there special unbreakable codes required to access it or stuff life that? If stuff goes down, can we comandeer BunBun? :)

Know: Galactic Lore - 6 +8 mod =14
Know: Tactics - 7 +8 mod =15
Pilot: 20+ 8 =28
Know: Technology: 16 +3 mod = 19

You know a dropship of this size is going to require a bridge crew at least: 3 officers, 5 bridge crew, 6 gunners, and 28 bay personnel. From the looks of things, you can see the bridge crew is pretty filled up, as well as gunners, but bay personnel is woefully inadequate (requiring you to personally maintain the mechs...luckily there were only 5...now 4...). You're pretty sure that you'll at least need the skills of the 5 bridge crew...

As for access, you're not sure about things like secure logins to the computers, etc. but you have seen that the bridge can be secured by a heavy door (now open), with pistol ports in the door.

But you're feeling pretty cocky, and think you'd like to have a go piloting it yourself... :)

OOC: We've been on the ship for a few weeks now -- what's our general sense of the crew, particularly the bridge crew? They have't come up yet in terms of the story -- honestly I hadn't even thought of them. That said, given Jack's management skills, they could be on the edge of mutiny already. :)

Perception +8 + 2 = 10
Gather Information +8 + 9 = 17

(I'm assuming Perception would be noticing things like how the ship was being run, visible signs of discontent, etc., while Gather Information would be more backroom conversations and grumblings over dinner. This is all Nigel trying to recall how the last few weeks have been.

While Nigel is pretty oblivious to crew attitudes and feelings, he does remember a lot of discontented chatter among the crew around the chow hall. Lots of talk about "another of Jack's get-rich-quick" schemes, or how the food is bad, etc.

OOC: Damon, where is this conversation going down -- in the mess hall? On the bridge? I presume the ship itself is en route to where ever it is that Jack was planning on selling the Ostscout.

OOC: yes the ship is still en route to the jumppoint. You are still technically in the Bolan system, but since the ship is a Lyran registered dropship (Bolan again is a Lyran Commonwealth provincial capital). The chatter you have previously overheard would have been in the mess hall and in the crew recreation/private areas...

Your current conversation with Jack is outside the mech bays. The ladder/access tube to the mech bay is nearby. Seems to be a crowd starting to gather too...

Nigel sees the gathering crowd, and smiles a small crooked smile. "So what you're saying Jack, is that you decided to go ahead and pocket 6 million credits for yourself and some layabout who didn't even risk his neck actually retrieve the mech? That hardly seems fair to me. That seem fair to anyone?"

He looks at one of the lower decks crew. "What's your take home on this ride? 500 cr? 700?" He shakes his head sadly. " Hell, seems like when we hit the mother lode, we should all hit the mother lode. That's what I would do if I ran the zoo. But what do I know, I'm just a mech jock. I work for a living."

You hear a lot of grumbling, especially about pay. Jack looks around and smiles. "Yeah, you ARE just a mech jock. What do you know about running an operation! I don't think you have the stones to take this one on..." he says with bravado.

While Jack is running his mouth, looking around at the crew, Walker is going to get close to him, and behind him, and draw my slugthrower.

Knowlege: Tactics - best approach to be unnoticed and get into prime strike position
Stealth: pull off the manuever

Know: Tactics - 9 + 8 mod = 17
Stealth - 20 + 13 = 33
(damn, i love Diceonomicon!!!) :)

Assuming I get into position with my slugthrower to the back of Jack's head, I say this:
"Don't have the stones, huh? We go out and steal a mech that's worth a fortune, for you, and you threaten to push us out the airlock? Well you might have the stones to threaten my life, but I don't think you have the grit to finish the job."

Then I shoot him.

Attack roll - 12 + 3 = 15 (he should be, ideally, surprised and flatfooted, so no Dex)
Damage = (2d6+1) = 3+6+1 = 10 damage

:)

"Oh, I think we know enough to do better than you. We could hardly do worse." Nigel looks around at the crew. "Ladies and gentleman, I think it's time for a management change."

He draws his sidearm and points it at Jack. "Now who's with me?"

OOC: I was writing this as Bob was posting his note, which actually works given that Nigel's caught up in the showdown with Jack. I think the two moves complement each other nicely. If nothing else, it inadvertently provides cover for Bob's move.

I'm happy to retcon it out if others disagree though, as Bob did move first.

Walker pulls the trigger, and the compartment is filled with sound and the smell of cordite. Nigel is spattered with blood, hair, bits of skin and bone as Jack collapses to the floor. The pistol round grazed his skull -- not a mortal wound but a dire one that partially exposes the man's brain. The chatter from the crew suddenly stops with Walker's brazen move. As everyone stands around dumb with shock, a big man -- the one you recognize as recruiting you on Galatea -- grabs Jack and in one fluid move dashes down the hall, through a hatch labeled "Fighter Bay." As you begin to react, the crew erupts, vociferous with questions, demands, accolades, and a lot of "What the hell just happened?" The crew crowd around you, preventing pursuit, alternately slapping you all on the back, shaking hands, and wondering who is in charge now?

The crowd is suddenly silenced by another loud report: this time the sound of metal on metal, and a sudden vibration: something just launched from the dropship, and looking out a port, you can see a dropshuttle speeding away, an upside-down egg-shaped ship brilliant against the starscape.

Nigel wipes the gore from his face. "Nice shot."
