Chapter 20, Interlude 14 - The Battle of Celwynvian

Post by setanta14 »

We have achieved our objective of capturing the Library of Reenai, and apparently the battle went well in other places since the elven leader Eviana could come to receive the "holocron" that we recovered.

Has the city been secured entirely?

Sorry, I wasn't clear at game's end. After securing the Library of Reenai, a band of elves arrived to relieve you and you returned to the war camp, where you met with Eviana and she received the memory globe. On the way back you could hear the sounds of fighting in the city and it's clear from the dead and wounded that you see in the camp that not everyone was as successful as you were. The acrid smell of smoke fills the air; it's clear that there must be several fires burning in the city itself.

The fight is far from over.

As you're escorted to Eviana's tent you can see additional elven war bands heading toward Celwynvian. Messengers stream to and from the tent, relaying reports and receiving orders. When you enter the tent Eviana motions at a map of Celwynvian that has been carefully tagged with a number of small flags, some black, some green. "These green flags represent our current troop deployments around the city, while the black flags indicate known drow holdouts. One such holdhout in particular has caught our attention and taking it out might help us greatly in the long run."

"We believe these ruins," she says, indicating a spot on the northern edge of the city, "contain an alchemical workshop where the drow have been producing many of their more insidious weapons. We want you to storm this place and take it out. The sooner the better. Rest, get healing if you need it, but we must press the attack. We must not let the drow seize back the initiative like they have so many times before.

Other than spellcasters, who is seriously depleted of effectiveness?

I say we press the attack asap.

I could press on, but I only have like 9 rounds of rage left (out of 19). So while I can still be effective, a rest-up wouldn't be bad either...

You are already back at the camp, which took 30 minutes to get to. Your rage expired on the way back.

OTOH, I also have the Drinking Horn of Heroism (which I found out does not stack with Rage...otherwise that would be sooooo broken!), so using that we could definitely push on...

Jheru is ready and willing to press on (would in fact vote to do so), but will rest with the group if that is our collective wish.

Jheru will also speak with Eviana when she speaks of the proposed target. He will ask her if she has any additional information, gained from scouts or divinations or the like, that she might share with our party that might give us a better idea of the battlegorund and what we might face. If there is knowledge of the sorts of experiments done there, or even of what doors are rusted shut and what doors are wide open (he glances at his comrades knowingly), that information would certainly help us plan our attack and may sway the encounter more strongly in our favour.

He will also offer up some of the bolts and such recovered from the drow for the efforts of the elves working on countermeasures, should Eviana be interested, and the party approve.

Phil is in good health and willing to push on, bu cautions the group that his supply of "special presents" for any new subterranean friends we meet this day is nearly depleted.
