Character Background

After completing his doctorate archaeology studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, August secured his first position as curator at the Museum of Science in Boston. After several years of cataloging the museum's ancient Egyptian collection, he discovered a misplaced, dusty tome while working on a new Sasanian Empire (Persia) display.

While August was only capable of a partial translation, the ancient secrets hinted at by the author (the mystic and mathematician Amidh Al'Azul) shocked and horrified him. If there was any truth whatsoever to Al'Azul's ramblings, August was galvanized that this tome must not fall into the wrong hands. The danger to humanity, insulated from unseen horrors only by a thin and tenuous veil, was dire and impending.

August struck out into Asia, seeking further clues as to humanity's defense and future fate, through museums, esoteric shops, and the back alleys of urban Iran. Further discoveries eventually led him through the cathedrals and catacombs beneath Paris, dusty library stacks of British universities, and certain remote ruins in southern Mexico.

Throughout his travels, August frequently encountered references to an organization known as the Wardens, and several months of inquiry eventually led him to their office in London. While the leadership of this organization didn't necessarily buy into all of August's warnings, it was clear that this group was the closest thing he had identified to allies in his perceived struggles.
