Heart of Darkness: Spoils

Post by EvilGenius »

Life in Farweald will carry on. You have decided to become a fellowship which will guard the Book of Infinite Spells. You are all now attuned to the Book, as is Chebka, The Oracle, who now resides in the Warlock's Tower (unless you object and negotiate a different circumstance).

An attuned wielder gains a persistent minor ability from the list below. This ability can be changed after completing a long rest.
1) Piercing Sight – You can see normally in darkness, both magical and non-magical, to a distance of 120’.
2) Boccob’s Understanding – you can read all writing
3) Divine Provenance – you are protected from some misfortunes by the gods themselves. When you finish a long rest, roll a d20 and record the number rolled. You can replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by you. You must choose to do so before the roll.
Divine Provenance can be used once and is regained after completing a long rest.

Each of you will also now have access to one special spell slot in the Book. Spells cast from the Book have a Spell Attack of +12 and a DC of 20.

You can choose amongst yourselves which spell slot and attendant spells you would like to claim as your own.

Spell Slot 1
Cantrip: Thorn Whip
1st Level: Cure Wounds
2nd Level: Mirror Image
3rd Level:
4th Level: Divination

9th Level:

Spell Slot 3

2nd Level: Aid
3rd Level: Sending
4th Level:
5th Level:
6th Level: Wall of Thorns
7th Level:
8th Level: Sunburst
9th Level:

Spell Slot 4
Cantrip: Guidance
1st Level: Searing Smite
2nd Level: Lesser Restoration
3rd Level: Protection from Energy
4th Level:
5th Level: Legend Lore

Each time a spell is used, there is a chance that it exhausts its power source in the Book and disappears from the list of available spells. Empty spell slots can be filled in by feeding other magical items to the Book (if any feeder devices remain).

You have also recovered Khrytos' Sword of Draconic Sorcery and Balrakas' cursed sword, The Corrupting Servitor.

You still possess the Helm of Infinity, a Helm of Telepathy which can be used to kill a person by draining their soul into the Book of Infinite Souls. Presumably this would now simply result in that soul being reincarnated back out into the multiverse, somewhere.

You also have the trust and respect of the people of Farweald, and several friends and allies in the town.

Bannock is a member of the town's new Council.

Quarion has been asked to take over the role of the town healer.

Brigga has been asked to join the town guard, an offer which she had turned down. She now finds that a few of her dwarven clan have shown up in Farweald and established a small trading shop. Brigga receives a new request from Glimdriss Hammerheart. Glimdriss wants to replace the wooden palisade walls of Farweald with sturdy, non-flammable stone walls. It seems there is an abandoned quarry a few days to the west of Farweald that should have suitable rock for such a wall, IF only there were some dwarves willing to mine it and build it.

Onarra has been asked to help guide Farweald's utilization of the surrounding wilderness, bringing it more in balance with nature.

The PCs still possess a Figurine of Fiendish Power, in the form of a barlurga demon.

Bern Haupt's mansion, The Grandwood, stands empty and silent on a hill overlooking town, with its profane, demonic temple and charnel pit concealed below. Leigha, Akriah, and Beltaine are all heirs to the Grandwood.

Haupt's Wonders, the high end mercantile in town, also stands empty, with its riches and its own room of horror, holding the gore soaked possessions of all of the unaware adventurers ensnared by Hravja, the rakshasa. Leigha, Akriah, and Beltaine are all heirs to Haupt's Wonders.

Reave remains in the Book of Infinite Souls in terrifying fiendish form. Thossos communicates with you and instructs you on how to conduct an elaborate ritual which can be used to reform Reave into a shortsword in your possession\guardianship.

You may state any long term goals that you would like your PCs to accomplish here, for example, Quarion building a shrine to Rillifane near Farweald, or destroying the Figurine of Fiendish Power (which takes daily action for a year and a day).

The timeline will advance about 1 year, maybe a little more, from the end of the campaign to accommodate your stated goals.
