Chapter 44: The Chartering

Post by NukeHavoc »

Following up on the discussion thread in Chapter 42, I'm going to answer my own question (sort of) and focus Sunday's adventure on the Chartering of Obsidian Bay. There will be in-town festivities and an opportunity to roll on random tables from Xanathar's Guide. :)

So bring your characters, your shopping lists, and your downtime ideas. It'd be helpful if folks could post the things they'd like to do today, but it's not essential.

Darogan would have been assisting Gremorly in further research of the Tomb of Telan/Ghostbane Scrolls of Ryda while the rest of the party was on the Sunless Garden adventure, perhaps with the assistance of Hegil's ghost. When the Chartering occurs, he would attend whatever celebrations he would be invited to.

Hawkwind would be concerned that the influence of the dark/fallen druid treant from the Sunless Garden has spread beyond it's foul cavern, particularly if the treant's philosophy has taken root among the Emerald Alliance. Even though his druidic training was left incomplete, this dangerous ethos goes against all of his Flan culture's traditions.

Rin has some training to do with a new level:
-Gain a new spell, swap an old one out, and practice; likely with Willowwind’s followers.
-Of course reporting to willow wind and the griffins.
-refocus to my new magic dagger
-shopping to swap out this uncivilized orcish bow for a better one (flavor text mostly)
-possibly picking up a shield for times needing added defense
-spending time training physical skills in Odithar (sp?) school
-and of course any requirements for the charter event

Bow? What don’t you have in that bag? Well, go ahead Burgell, tell me about it.

"Oh it's a great bow! Finest I've ever come across. Just wait here while I get it..."

After talking to Rin, Burgell will begin discretely inquiring about any rich jerks in the city that might have a fine and servicable bow. Assuming he can find someone, he'll then go to Both Zap & Telthanas: "Gentleman, how would you like to do ol' Burgell a favor...?"

Also, assuming this caper is successful, Burgell will also want to then use that seed money to found the Gnomish Relief Fund, with an aim at alleviating the pending disaster the hurricane will cause in the refugee community.

Zaphrym has a large to-do list during Chartering:

1. Still reeling from the 'chess match' with my former assailants, it behooves me, more than ever, to unravel the nature of my former master, the extent of his reach, and the repurcussions to my current adventuring alliance.

2. I will seek information regarding the book I uh, 'liberated' from my former master.

3. Burgell has some kind of favor to ask of me?! What a great opportunity to help my new friend!

4. Assist Burgell with establishing the Gnomish Relief Fund.

5. Offer my services to Gremorly and Darogan with the Tome of Telan/Ghostbane Scrolls research.

6. Go shopping for something to avoid almost dying again.

6. Do something about this gods-damned hangover!

XP from the battle with the treant and the awakened trees at the Chartering:

Burgell: 1,925
Zaphrym: 1,925
Hawkwind: 1,925
Darogan: 1,925

*ding* - Burgell is 10th level.
