I was thinking of rolling up a halfling ranger of sorts (may multi-class him). The concept was for him to be a guide, living in the city, and escorting expeditions around the Pomarj. After a little research on the crier, I noticed he would fit well with the Frontersmen. So I have a few questions:

1) Could I be a member or applicant member to the Frontersmen?

2) Would they allow halflings?

3) What would be the cost to buy a small home in OB?

heh. one of those famous long-legged halflings scouts eh? :)

Halflings are pretty rare in Obsidian Bay, but I think the Frontiersmen would accept anyone who knows their stuff. We've never actually used them in game, except in passing, but I envision them as one of the 'good' alternatives to the Thieves Guild, where the honorable rogues went when the Thieves Guild turned evil.

I see them as being a fairly chaotic good sort of organization; the sort that doesn't take the "no questions asked" sort of jobs (but at the same time, aren't overly zealous about following the city's laws; it's just if they break them, they want to have a good reason for it). I think their ranks would be filled with rangers and rogues, with a few sorcerers or bards thrown in for good measure.

If you want to be a member of the guild, I'm fine with that. We'll just need to flesh it out some more.

My vision is he's not so much a scout, more a guide. He'll be very knowlegable, but not the greatest tracker. He's much more comfortable in doors at night than in the wilderness.

Your description there is what I was thinking when I read the description on the crier.

Why a halfling? There is a sore lack of the wee folk in the various games I play. I want to start bringing them in. It's only a whim of mine however and if you'd like me to play another race I'd be fine with that. Reason I wanted to go with a guild however is to remedy the fact that I am one of few halflings in town. Prove you have what it takes, get a guild at your back, and people will think twice, then mess with you.

I'm fine with a halfling in the game; they make for good eatin'!

Another good thing about halfies? No one cares when you kill em in the wilderness.

Good thing about halfies? Easy to throw. Like to monsters to slow pursuit.

I'm still gearing up on this character. Don't have all the details yet. Should work him out tonight. I'll send you a summary.

Naw, that was a joke. I'm leaning more twards the part of the fronteersmen who used to be the thieves guild. Now they are more legitiment.

I've been thinking rogue/sorc or wiz. Just to mix things up a bit. A skill based character mainly.

We really don't need more combat in our newly found party of paladins!

Ok, changed concept slightly. I'd like to go with a Gnome. He was formerly of the Theives guild, now a member of the fronteersmen. Mainly hes a skill based character and does better outside combat than in. He's also an inventer/tinkerer and used to heavily craft alchemical items for the Thieves guild. Those skills have become of less use in the fronteersmen. His big draw for the party will be his guiding skills and his knowedge. (LOTS of skill points)

Sound good or should I rethink?

I'm tidying up the Dark City portion of the wiki. There's a reference to a character named "Dolth" in the notes from the "The Storm Rising" saga; is Dolth this character?

No, this character was never completed or played. I went with Gerran (cleric of Fharlanghn) when the party later traveled outside the walls. Those were the only characters I can find.
