Commercial for new SW movie

Post by Lars Porsenna »

Just saw this on TV...

It's hard not to pre-judge...

Besides all he teeny-bopper elements (ehhh...) the part that really gave me the WTF moment was the baby Jabba. I mean, really?

Maybe it wasn't Jabba, but with George you never know...

Is this the same thing they've been showing trailers for? The Clone Wars with the totally wrong voice for Yoda?

I didn't mind the more stylized look, and it honestly had a more appealing look than Ep1 - But damn if it doesn't smell like a 90 minute cutscene.

Jabba's son actually, per this trailer:

It's highly stylized to be sure, but so was the Clone Wars cartoon, and that was pretty good. We'll see.

I thought it looked totally badass... much better animation than the Clone War shorts, realistic looking combat, and the same voices from CW... and what do you mean about Yoda's voice? It wasn't Frank Oz, but close enough for a cartoon.

On the opposite note, I saw another commercial that didn't look so bad...

The baby Hutt thing, though...

Maybe I'm just not the target audience anymore because I'm not 12...

Maybe it was the theater I was in, but Yoda sounded more like Duke Nukem than Grover. It wasn't good.

But that Sith chick was cool.

edit: He only had one or two lines in the trailer with Hellboy - he sounds a lot more convincing in the longer one.

I think it looks cool - even though after all the movies and previous clone wars cartoons I have no idea what really happens during the clone wars. Lucas couldn't pick a different set of heroes for once?

I saw the trailer at the theater, and didn't think it looked too bad. I didn't like the "Japanese" look and action of the Clone Wars animated shorts, but this one looked more interesting.

I wonder how involved Lucas was in the production of this thing? I thought he was supposed to become more hands-off with the SW properties after the end of the 2nd trilogy?

I would defintely say that neither the action nor the style of the previous Clone Wars animated series I'd characterize as "japanese" (or at least I never got that impression).

Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that Tartakovsky's style reminds me of / borrows from / was inspired by Japanese animation to some extent.

I normally love his work, but I didn't particularly like the animated series. It was OK, but the vibe or feel was too unlike Star Wars and too like everything on Cartoon Network for my tastes.

I really like how the Ep1-3 sometimes looks like the original concept art, with an almost 1920's art deco look - that seems especially evident with the 'hood ornament' fins on the clone troopers, C3PO's "Metropolis-esque" look, and some of the backgrounds - yet this always seems to get muted and blunted into a more 'normal' look.

Probably not the best clip they could have posted, but you can watch 3.5 minutes of clones dieing here.

I'll just say I really liked the cartoon, more than ep 1-3. So on one hand I'm pretty excited about this movie. On the other... it looks like they are just re-doing the cartoon and extending it to a full movie. So we'll see.
