Its true:

Seems they decided to cancel the show while it's still doing well. I'm sure actor salaries were a factor. But they will be doing movies (as they have continue with SG-1).
But stargate tv series live on:

Oh man, the new show... they use key words like "relevant to a new generation," "younger vibe," and "younger cast" and "character driven and less reliant on Scifi Mythology." My prediction: 90210 in space...

Maybe, but it has the same writing/production staff that SG-1 and Atlantis did. With 15 seasons of stargate... I'm willing to give them my optimism.Lars Porsenna wrote:Oh man, the new show... they use key words like "relevant to a new generation," "younger vibe," and "younger cast" and "character driven and less reliant on Scifi Mythology." I agree. And honestly while I'll be sad to see Atlantis go as a series, these kinds of periodic reboots are the kind of thing Star Trek should have been doing all along. All that built up continuity is nice, but it makes it difficult to bring in new (and yes, younger) fans.
Personally, I like the setup -- the Ancient galaxyship harkens back to the giant space artifacts of books like Rama or Ringworld, and I think the ship's inevitable advance should provide some cool story opportunities.
