Tech Specialist Upgrades

Zulen has the tech specialist feat, which allows him to give bonuses and other enhancements to armor, devices, droids, vehicles, and weapons. The cost is 1/10 the cost of the device or 1000cr, which ever is greater.

Armor Traits

* Agile armor: the armor's Max Dex bonus increases by 1
* Fortifying armor: the armor's equipment bonus to Fortitude Defense increases by 1.
* Protective armor: The armor's armor bonus to Reflex Defense increases by 1.

Droid Traits

* Enhanced Dexterity: Increase the droid's Dex by 2.
* Enhanced Intelligence: Increase the droid's Int by 2
* Enhanced Strength: Increase the droid's Str by 2

Weapon Trait

* Improved accuracy: Weapon gains +1 equipment bonus on attack rolls.
* Improved damage: Weapon deals +2 points of damage with a successful hit.
* Selective Fire: Auto-fire-only ranged weapon can be set to fire in single shots, or a single-shot ranged weapon can be made to have an autofire mode (not allowed for weapons that have a burst radius or a splash radius).

Device Traits
* Enhanced Sstrength: Increase device by 2.
* Improved Durability: Device's damage reduction increases by 1 and it gains extra hit points equal to 1/4 its max hit points.
* Mastercraft Device: Skill checks made using the device gain a +1 equipment bonus, or the devices existing equipment bonus increases by 1.

The work takes 1 day per 1,000 credits of cost. It requires a DC 20 mechanics check to complete; others can aid in the Mechanics check, but it doesn't add to my bonus, only the time it takes to complete the task. If I fail, the credits are lost, and the item doesn't gain the desired trait.

Each item can only have one trait; the effect is permanent.

Zulen will likely be making upgrades to his own equipment using this feat during the downtime, but he will happily offer to upgrade his friends' equipment as well

Yes, it's Nar Shaddaa; I forgot to check that before posting. I've updated the blog entry with the correct location, and added the pirate ship auction details.

Besides money and the DC roll, what's to prevent Nate from going to town and making an Uberdroid? Does one of these upgrades count as a "trait?" Is Nate's character "technically" an object? :)
Weapon Trait

* Improved accuracy: Weapon gains +1 equipment bonus on attack rolls.
* Improved damage: Weapon deals +2 points of damage with a successful hit.
Can any of these be done on Lightsabers?

Incidentially, Quest will donate whatever remaining monies he has, save a bit for living expenses, to the "Highlife-buy-a-ship" Charity drive.

Each item/droid/armor/weapon can only have a single trait, so you can get one trait for your weapon and another for your armor, but you can't get two traits for the same set of armor.

And droids aren't objects; the rules are pretty clear on this (thus breakdown into objects and droids. :)
Can any of these be done on Lightsabers?
I believe so, yes. It doesn't explicitly exclude them, and they are weapons.

Ok. The upgrade costs 1000cr. Zulen doesn't charge you for his labor, happy to lose himself in customizing a lightsaber -- a real Jedi lightsaber! -- using the workbench aboard the Aeon Harrier.

We can make the rolls tonight; Zulen has the Arkanian Offshoot trait that lets him re-roll failed skill checks, so with luck (or the guiding hand of the Force) he should be able to do it.

This one will also need new locks, and a new front view window ;-)

"Well Zulen, Shim, what do you think? Are either of those ships worth bidding? The Ghtrok 720 is stripped out, which makes it cheap and we can build it the way we want it. But is it a dependable ship?"

Zulen looks up from his work on retooling a lightsaber, pauses to think about the Ghtrok and says ... ""Well, at a glance, I'd day it needs suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end, new rings, mufflers, a little wiring..."

"Oh wait, that's the old speeder I was checking out yesterday. The Ghtrok? Well, I guess we should go look at it. I mean, there's something to be said for a good re-build you know? The 578-R hardly looks like a challenge. I mean, I already *know* all those systems...."

A Fly speed of 2 calculates out to 1300c, so instead, JPD-14 will purchase the following:

Telescopic Hands (100c, gives reach of 2 squares)
Increase Dex by +2 (1000c or 587c, whichever is greater)

*Sigh* "Well, I'd like to see the ship in the air in a reasonable amount of time. We can't really afford to take two years rebuilding it. Now I can fly just about any hunk of junk, but we should be sure it's reliable. I have a feeling we can swing a good gig working for the jedi."
