Re: On advancement and downtime

Post by Jonkga »

First of all, I want to apologize for all the crazy posts this weekend. I'm just having a really hard time wrapping my head around stuff, it seems.

I guess my problem all boils down to somehow I missed the part where this campaign became our main campaign. I though we were still in our 4E/Pathfinder playtest mode, and were just playing Star Wars to fill some time til Pathfinder came along. So, I build a character with zero long term goals so i wouldn't have to worry about in-game character development.

So, when this game became our primary, it seems I ended up on the outside with a character only focused on mechanical development.

None of this should be taken as a complaint. This campaign is going incredibly well, and I'm having an awesome time gaming with you all. Ken, your set piece and the game friday night were fabulous.

It's just taken all this awkward posting this weekend for me to see that my real disconnect is that I'm playing simply for the mechanics, while everyone is is developing a campaign. viewed that way, it's why I was feeling the need to jump many more levels than anyone else. Also why as a player I wanted the cool looking armor for no mechanic or in-game reason other than as a player I thought it looked cool.

Bottom line, I think I've made the necessary mental leap to get on the same page as everyone else.

So, Baden is still not going to have a destiny or any goals - he's going to work for Highlife, and be the character I can use to fill out the party when I can make it to the table. He's got a very strong build, and his gear is fine and will hold up for many, many levels.

As for leveling and jumping ahead, I'd say we move on th 5th level as we normally would have and forget all this other crazy talk I brought up.

And, as I was approaching the campaign from a different mindset, I never really got the Mandalorian stuff, and I guess I still don't really. They are only backstory in any of the movies and games I am familiar with, so I've no real strong desire to play them out. As I mentioned off the cuff before, perhaps it would be better if I just played out Baden for the next storyline, skipped the Mandalorian interlude stuff I don't really get, and then rejoin the table on the other side, at wahtever level you guys deem appropriate.

And, really, let the leveling be as organic as possible and be determined by the folks with more invested in these characters.

Again, sorry to be muddling the water so much this weekend. Chalk it up to my misunderstanding where we were at as a group on this one.

Jon I'd just like to point out you don't work for Highlife, you are a full partner in Binary Transports along with Shim, Zulen and Highlife. Any input you have in the company is more than welcome! In fact, when Highlife picks up a follower bodyguard you'll be his boss :)

Also, your not the only one concerned about who/what the Mandalorian campaign is all about. See the Mandalorian thread.

For the regress I would humbly submit the following: Looking at the shipbuilding thread, I think during the downtime we should install the weapons (two double lasers already purchased from the Junkard), the Tech Specialist Vehicle Trait Enhanced Dexterity, Personalized Controls, and of course the navcomputer (also already purchased, with another for the Harrier!). I'd also like to see the three droids repaired (or at least the power droid and the astromech, RGE-3 might take a little more time...) I think this would be reasonable in a three month period.

As for the rest of the upgrades, I figure on saving them for later. Binary Transports is still a fledgling company and needs to start saving the extra credits for another ship. We can only make so many credits with one ship afterall ;)

As for Highlife, he will be purchasing a personal shield generator. Not sure about anything else... but definitly a personal shield generator.

On a related note, DON'T FORGET, EVERYONE SHOULD PURCHASE A FEW MEDPACS FOR THEMSELVES!!! :P

So I know this was a long thread, but we need to reach some conclusions so I can plan for Friday.

1) Level advancement: are we going to 5th level or 6th? I say 6th.

2) How much downtime? I think six months is good (and I should note that we need downtime for upgrades/repairs/etc. regardless of whether we jump to 5th or 6th).

I concur... 6th for a bit of a boost above normal progression.

We'll probably play Main until 7th (first level of prestige for you non-droids), yes?

Starting Mando's at 8th?

Then returning to Main at 10th?

Playing till 7th isn't a bad way to go, since for the jedi characters at least, it gives Ken the opportunity(if he chooses) of doing something in-game for knighthood.

That's my thinking right now, yes.

Credits Everyone gets 4,500 credits to spend during the downtime. This includes revenue and rewards from Episode 5: The Winds of Ryloth, as well as additional credits you earned during the 6 month downtime following your return to Zebulon Beta.
