That's ok, Zulen believes in you.

No problem, Jon. The armor and weapon upgrades are not critical in any sense. They just add an extra capability. And mandalorian armor has some upgrades built in, like the ability to survive in a vaccuum for up to 10hrs.

By way of example, the armor upgrades I have taken are: shadowskin, reflec (+10 stealth checks) and climbing claws (climb speed of 3, take 10 on climb checks). I'd like to install the aquatic upgrade which is like climb but underwater. Or the jump servos which give me a +10 jump check (I think).

Weapon upgrades are similar. Enhanced energy cell allows you to re-roll a natural 1 (I think). Hidden Compartment allows you to hide a small item in your weapon grip (comlink, maybe?). Targeting scope reduces penalties for long range shot. Targeting scope with low light gives you low light vision through the scope.

Actually, basic non-mandalorian flight suits allow you to survive in a vacuum for 10 hrs also. But, yeah, I get it. And, I do think these upgrades are nominally cool. Maybe its just because I don't really love playing Star Wars.

It just seems that we haven't really gotten into the equipment minutia in this campaign, doing more handwaiving and saying "yeah, you've got what you need" for the most part, so it makes most of these upgrades cool, but not really necessary. Targeting scopes, for example, are basically useless, as we've never been in a combat where I was at the table and all my weapons weren't at pointblank range already. But sure, they're still cool.

And, I don't feel like buying new books, and then ones I have dont really address this stuff, so maybe I'll just skip it and stick with the basic load-out.

IMHO, the thing I like about Star Wars is that you can ignore a lot of the fiddly bits and be just fine. You might get a little more bang for your character buck with some upgrades, and they can be handy for specializing, but at the end of the day it's more about feats and talents than your gear. Unlike say, D&D 3.x, which was very much about your gear. Of course, abilities mattered too of course, but forgoing a +3 weapon at 10th level in D&D was far more likely to ruin your day....

And don't let this bout of grousing make you think I'm getting all depressed and anti-social agian (or at least any *more* depressed and anti-social). I'm really rather excited to play, I just don't want to get too hung up on stuff that then I'll forget about. Sort of like choosing not to pick a bunch of situational type talents and feats, but instead going for the "always on" type. Just makes the game playing more enjoyable for me, that's all.

Standard issue, so yes, he does. And, he's trained in the pilot skill. :)

All righty. Ken has strenuous objections to my character's Stealth skill so I'm going to change it to be a little more reasonable.

Ken, I'm going to lower my Armor equipment ShadowSkin bonus back down to the +5 version, which will give me a +22 skill check. Someone at 8th level with a 12 Wisdom and who is trained in Perception (but without Skill Focus: Perception) would have a Perception score of 10 (I think). That closes the gap between our skills enough that if I roll poorly and the NPC rolls well I can still be seen, especially if I'm doing something like the Snipe application of the Stealth skill, which imposes a -10 penalty to my check.

I'll chose some other Armor Upgrade. (Note: I was considering dropping the Skill Focus: Stealth feat and using the feat for something else but I'd rather be more naturally skilled than more dependant on equipment).
