Interlude: Echos of War

Post by NukeHavoc »

It has been five years since the defeat of the Sith at the space/time-shattering Spires of Xax and the subsequent loss of the Jedi Knight Lornn Varri. It's been four and a half since the defeat of the pirate lord Ral Duris and his flagship Obsidian Phoenix at the hands of the Jedi Knights of the Unified Force Academy and their allies in Binary Transports and Starrior Expeditions.

It has not been a quiet time.

The heroes of Zebulon Beta have travelled the galaxy, returning each year to the Durosian Gremlin in Jolus City to share increasingly dire tales.

War has raged on the fringes of the Outer Rim as the Mandalorians erupted from their home world to seize an empire. The Republic did little to respond to this violence save granting membership to the city-world of Taris and establishing the Jebble-Vanquo-Tarnith Line to protect Taris and the agricultural planets that feed it.

Rumors of Mandalorian atrocities have drifted back to the Republic, but few have taken them seriously. Among them are the Jedi Knights Revan and Malak, who have led forays into Mandalorian space in search of proof of such horrors.

Binary Transport has survived inspite of the conflict, running covert reconnaissance and supply missions into the conflict zone on behalf of Republic Admiral Jimas Veltraa, co-commander of the Jebble-Vanquo-Tarnith Line. It has also kept up its ties with the Unified Force Academy, transporting Jedi -- including some of their old allies -- to areas in need of humanitarian aid from the order. And sometimes they lend the might of their lightsabers as well.

Although the Jedi High Council on Coruscant has forbidden the Order from engaging the Mandalorians, for fear that it will encourage them to attack the Republic proper, not all agree with their decry. The leaders of the Unified Force Academy on Zebulon Beta typify this divide.

While Jedi Master Queil, headmaster of the academy, has cautioned for watchful vigilance, Masters Ren Denobis and Qillon Kree have argued in favor of "aggressive negotiations" with the Mandalorians. Edan Photonam, ever the philosopher, wavers between the two points, and tries to keep the peace between Queil and the increasingly disgruntled Denobis and Kree.

Of Lornn Varri, there has been no sign since he dove through the Spire portal after the Dark Lady Aldera. The Unified Academy has found great stellar trama in remote star systems associated with the Holocron of Zend -- moons smashed into one another, great comets driven into gas giants, spectacularly violent corona ejections from a red giant -- but of the Sith knowledge cult, there has been only fleeting evidence.

===The Last Five Years...===

In terms of what the players have acquired over the last five years, Binary Transports now has six ships, including the Infinite Regress, the Aeon Harrier and the Cloudskimmer.

Each Jedi has their own starfighter, provided by the Living Force Academy to facilitate their good works in the Outer Rim ... and beyond. The starfighter in question is the Republic Fleet Systems Star Saber XC-01 Starfighter (CL 10, includes a hyperdrive x2, 10-jump memory utility droid).

Each character has saved 10,000 credits over the last five years. Please post your shopping lists to this thread. Keep in mind that Zulen has the tech specialist feat and will happily meet up with his friends during the downtime to craft upgrades. :)

My question for the group is ... what have your characters been doing during the last five years?

If I remember correctly, someone wanted to spend time researching the Holocron of Zend, but I don't remember if it was Rade Gasa or Quest Fios.

Are any of the Jedi interested in taking on a padawan? If so, Adon’ar Rha (the Twi'lik orphan you rescued from Ryloth) could fit the bill. Actually, this (or another padawan) might make a great character for Zack at Nuke(m)Con. :)

Has anyone been adventuring beyond the Outer Rim, in Mandalorian territory? If so, are you working with your former masters at the Unified Force Academy ... or with Revan and Malak?

No, it wasn't Quest that was going to study the Holocron.

Quest would be taking an increasingly active role in combating the Mandos, or rendering aid wherever he can. Quest has always been an "action speaks louder than words" type, and feels to do nothing while others suffer is NOT serving the Light Side of the Force.

He would definitely be interested in taking on a Padawan...

Zack wasn't too excited about playing a soldier, and decided not to play SWSE. Partially for this reason, I also didn't sign up for SWSE. I'll ask him about playing a padawan character.

Rade is the one who wanted to study the Holocron of Zend in earnest.

Does he do this on his own, with Qillion Kree, or in coordination with Revan and Malak?

Ok, there's rules for that in the Jedi Training Academy Manual. Are you interested in having the Twi'lek as a Padawan, or someone from Quest's own world and force tradition?

We've got a bunch of options out there that aren't soldiers, including a Jedi. And I'm sure we could easily knock out a character for him to play. If you guys decide to do video games instead, we may need to borrow you for a few minutes though -- the Invasion of Ord Brokell is a Jedi mission, and Rade may want to weigh in on the approach the Jedi take... :)

ok, so noted. I'll put together some notes on what he found.

Our intent isn't a "follow the orders of these guys" solder. These guys are elite solders/officers acting as Republic representatives. We want them to be free thinking and bring their own ideas to the table. Also as Ken said they aren't all solder class. We wanted to make sure each class was available, so there is even another Jedi from the United Force Academy who is accompanying the party.

Just want to make sure you guys have all the facts :) There will be plenty of games to play other than Star Wars! Just make sure you guys bring your gamer tags on memory cards ^.^

Probably a little bit of "all of the above." He's a bit more individualistic, so will do his own thing, as he feels is right, but may enlist/work with Kree or R/M as the need arises...

We'll see how Bob weighs in, as the last remaining Jedi.

Understood, but remember the source. Zack is 14 and spent many of his formative years running around in a jedi costume swinging plastic lightsabers at invisible enemies. He also isn't a role playing vet, who might relish working with a more down-to-earth character, so the flashy jedi is the shiny coin catching his eye.

I spoke to him this morning, and he'd be interested in playing either the one-off UFA jedi or the padawan. I think the latter would be a great fit for him. As such, I'll now be playing SWSE on Friday night as well (don't think I can edit my "prereg" schedule).

Rade Gaza has spent most of the interlude in missions supporting war relief efforts. He has consciously avoided direct engagement, instead focusing on aiding the population of worlds devastated by the fighting.

He has specifically spent a lot of time escorting Binary Transport missions - partly to insure his friends' safety, but also due to his concern over Zulen's tendency to release his anger in desperate situations. Due to his lack of formal training, Rade worries that Zulen may listen too closely to whisperings from the Dark Side. Rade senses a great destiny in Zulen, and such a bright light within the Living Force warrants as much attention as the grander dark events of the day.

Rade has distanced himself somewhat from the Unified Force Academy. He still reveres Edan Photana as his master and values his guidance and teachings, but Rade has become increasingly frustrated with the other UFA masters' general reluctance to listen to the Living Force. Fate will not guide the future of the galaxy, and in such trying times, one must trust one's feelings and pave a conscious path to stave off the growing tides of the Dark Side.

As mentioned, Rade has been spending a great deal of his down time convening with and studying the Holocron of Zend in an effort to uncover its ancient secrets.

At this time, Rade is not yet ready to take on a Padawan learner.

Highlife was putting all his effort into Binary Transports, focusing on growing the business into the six ship transport fleet it is today. To this end he put all his money into the business (specifically into upgrades for the Regress)... Though he may have Zulen upgrade his sidearm.

However as the war came closer to home, this all changed. Highlife is a military man at heart. Since as far back as he could remember he always wanted to serve as a pilot the Republic Navy. That dream was crushed when he was dishonorably discharged after being falsely accused. While there he made many friends and contacts which he still uses today. In the past he used them to grab tidbits of information, or find out where transports were needed most.

Recently, Admiral Jimas Veltraa contacted Highlife. He needed some independent transports to run missions he couldn't devote his fleet to. Not wanting to commit all of Binary Transports resources to these dangerous missions, Highlife ran most of these missions himself. However the crew of BT is both loyal and persuasive. In the end he agreed to let those who wanted to volunteer do so, though despite the good pay he'll only commit the Regress and Cloudskimmer to these missions. He wants the other ships to keep the regular transport business going.
