That seems better to me as far as I have envisioned Tanevir in 5E, as I kinda dislike being forced to otherwise choose a school of magic as an arcane tradition, since Tanevir was always a "universalist" not focusing on any particular school.

I feel the same way. I liked being a generalist, and I'd like to see arcane traditions beyond the traditional schools of magic.
