Re: dwarven paladin. Often there are options to create characters that are paladin-like but are otherwise different from paladins. FREX, when it was decided I could not play an elven paladin, I instead created an elven fighter/Holy Liberator. The character had abilities similar to a paladin, but different enough to make it unique. I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing existed that would fit for dwarves (aformentioned Defender might not be bad...)

Exactly. And personally I wouldn't mind re-tooling the paladin class to come up with an alternative "holy warrior" dedicated to dwarves, though ultimately it'd probably be better to create a prestige class with relatively low-level (read 6th level) qualifications.

ergo -- a holy warrior might have an animal companion rather than a steed, it might retain the smite and aura abilities, but lose turning, etc.

I absolutely agree, and I'm not at all opposed to creating a dwarf-centric holy warrior prestige class.

Just probably not by, you know, tomorrow. :)

Okay - I'm leveling up Manansi for this campaign. He's an enchantment specialist - compulsion, domination, Hold, etc. etc. Please don't create Tritherionite characters...

Advice on item creation feats. I'm considering wands, staves & rods. Which ones of these might one choose and why? (i.e. if I have craft staves, do I need craft wands, etc.)

LOL! that shouldn't be a problem in this campaign. :P :D

When we do adventures that tie into the Cathedral of Liberty, I'll schedule them for weeks when you can't be there. ;)

I'm trying to choose item creation feats to take (or not). I'm considering wand, rod, and staff. What are the different reasons I'd take each? If I have staff, do I need the others?

Bob can probably comment on this best, but I'd say it's most likely a function of cost -- wands are great for low-level utility spells or clutch attack spells (e.g. knock, magic missile, etc.) that you use frequently. Scrolls are better for one-off spells like comprehend languages that are handy to have around, but don't justify a wand.

Rods are usable by anyone, so they could be useful for augmenting others in the party. Staves are powerful but expensive, which makes them less useful for powering utility spells.

Thanks for feedback. I was unaware that dwarves were not paladins in Greyhawk or in the version of Greyhawk that is played. As such, I will not play that character. I would much rather go with the core ideals of the campaign world and not be that exception to the rule.

And please, this is not the norm for me playing abstract characters (e.g., the mention of the dragon shaman as an option or this character). I very typically play the human cleric, paladin, and rangers or the typical dwarves (clerics or fighters - with the exception of 1 character being the annoyingly happy dwarf, cleric of Muamman Duathal. A dwarf turned traveler who the dwarves were most likely happy to leave.)

Lastly, I completely understand how to change a character into a different class - a fighter/cleric can look like a paladin, as well as a liberator, etc.

I'll work on something comparatable to the party and setting.

I'll go on record and state that I have no problem with Dwarven wizards, or paladins for that matter. Sure, old-school greyhawk said they were not common, and in most dwarven societies either mistrusted (arcane spellcasters) or just absent (paladins), but to think that our campaign world is not evolving, and that the existence of dwarves alongside human cultures could not have caused their to be examples of these character classes among dwarves, even if whole traditions did not spring up (yet), is just short sighted, as far as I am concerned. It makes sense that traditional dwarves such as our friends in khelez-mar might not have a dwarf wizard or paladin among them, but a dwarf who grew up in OB and apprenticed at a young age to a wizard and eventually took up the trade, I would think that possible. And, that a dwarven fighter fighting giants alongside paladins in Geoff might begin to believe in the righteous power of Heironeous that fuels his companions enough to begin to follow the faith and become a paladin, entierly plausible.

That being said, Bob and Ken are certainly very... persuasive, and as this is Bob's campaign, and OB is obstensibly Ken's baby, I guess they get the last word.

Or, maybe I'm just in an ornery mood after work again, and I'll think differently in the light of day.

That's a sample, please provide feedback on anything that may not be appropriate for the game.

Divine Shield - Complete Warrior: Standard Action: Add Cha bonus to AC for rounds equal to Cha bonus.
Divine Might - Complete Warrior: Swift Action: Add Cha bonus to attack for the round.

I'm uncertain of the Glorious Weapon. It makes all ally weapons within range have the good descriptor... a blessing of Heironeous? I'm not certain if this will be used much.

Another option would be Combat Brute, which is to charge in and swing hard. It is a Complete Warrior feat. It seems like a paladin thing to do against Hextor and evils.

1st Level:
Rhino Rush: Swift Action x2 damage on charge
Bless Weapon: Confirm crit threat as criticals
2nd Level:
Eagle's Splendor
Bull's Strength
3rd Level:
Dispel Magic
