Battletech Characters
Battletech Characters
I posted this to the Battletech Wave as well, but thought we might want to thrash out the Saga stuff in the forum. For my $.02 we may want to go with 22 point builds; that would make it a little bit easier to have a single skill with a +2 bonus.
Nigel Gibson CL 2
Medium Human scoundrel 1/soldier 1
Nigel is a disenfranchised noble son from a minor branch of House Davion intent on winning back his family's lands and reputation. Possible options for the family's ill-fortunes could include corporate maneuvering, a costly gamble gone terribly wrong, etc. Regardless, before his family's fall Nigel attended the best schools, culminating with a prestigious military academy. When his family lost their fortune, he was forced to drop out of the academy with only year to go. Rather than joining House Davion's military forces (a role he could not achieve without the necessary lambskin) he instead decided to use his skills as a mercenary. This led him to explore the seedier side of life, where he's acquired a number of contacts, and a surprising knack for getting into (and out of) trouble.
Force 2
Init +7; Senses darkvision, low-light vision; Perception +3

Possessions all-temperature cloak, armored flight suit (+5 armor, +2 equipment) with Vacuum Seals, blaster pistol, datapad, hold-out blaster, knife, utility belt (3 day food supply, medpac, tool kit, power pack, energy cell, glow rod, comlink, liquid cable dispenser)

Wait, what? How did he get darkvision and low-light???NukeHavoc wrote:

For languages use real-world languages. "Basic" is essentially English, but useful languages would be German (Lyrans), Japanese (Combine), Mandarin Chinese (Confederation), and French (Fedsuns). Honorable mention would be Swedenese (japanese/swedish fusion, Rasalhauge), Russian, Vietnamese (both common in the Confederation); Greek (Free Worlds); Italian and Pakistani (Lyrans), and Hindi or Hebrew (Fedsuns).Languages Basic, 1 unassigned
Was this at 20pts or 22. If it was at 20pts, go for 22 IMHO.Abilities Str 9, Dex 12, Con 10, Int 13, Wis 11, Cha 13

I think this is either a bug in the spreadsheet OR the helmet package for my flight suit. I'm thinking the former.Lars Porsenna wrote:Wait, what? How did he get darkvision and low-light???

Re: Battletech Characters
FYI -- helmets (like the one with my Armored Flight Suit) grant low-light. I think dark vision is a bug.

Re: Battletech Characters
Here's the revised 22 pt Gibson. I bumped his Dex and Charisma, added Skill Training as a feat to pick up Perception (dropping Quick Draw) and swapped out his blaster pistol for a slug thrower.

Re: Battletech Characters
Damon,
How are any of the Saga feats going to translate into BTech? Like the Vehicular Combat feat, (allows you to roll a pilot check to avoid one hit per round)? Or the various feats that apply to starship combat, like Gunnery specialist (reroll a missed attack once per round)?

Re: Battletech Characters
I think it's going to be a "case by case" basis.
So Bob, if you're thinking about a specific feat, post it and we'll consider it.
FREX, vehicular combat would have obvious applications in the cockpit, but is rolling a pilot check for a miss once a round way too powerful? Considering its probably much harder in Battletech to land a hit, I'd say so.
Damon.

Re: Battletech Characters
IMO, we should just say that SWSE feats, etc. don't affect mech combat in any way. Otherwise, we'll just run into serious balance issues.
Folks could still take piloting feats or whatever, and that could apply to a helicopter that we're flying, or jeep that we're driving in, during a role-playing session.

Re: Battletech Characters
I agree. I really don't think we need that interface layer between BT and Saga; I think the more we try and connect the two, the more frustrated we're going to get. IMHO it's better to role-up characters and get playing than to get lost in the high weeds of system integration.erilar wrote:IMO, we should just say that SWSE feats, etc. don't affect mech combat in any way. Re: Battletech Characters
Sorry, kind of have a brain lock on a char concept.
Now that I'm thinking about it, did we decide whether our RP characters are the actual mech jocks, or support personnel for the mech lance?

Re: Battletech Characters
Okay, in that case, my RP character is going to be the dirtbag mechanic for my mech jockey. He was originally in a "Dirty Dozen"-type, second chance Davion outfit, but was dishonorably discharged for "ahh, a minah disagreement - fuggedaboudit!"
Scoundrel 1 / Scout 1, good at fixing stuff (including supply depot magnalocks), scrounging, and general sneaking about.
Will put him together tomorrow over lunch.

Re: Battletech Characters
I'm thinking about a frontier/adventurer type. Childhood and adolescense with an exploration outfit, checking planets for valuable resources. When he was old enough he joined the military in a scout/recon role.
I'm not sure how I'll build out his class structure yet. Probably Scout/Scoundrel or Scout/Soldier
