Ryloth found!

Post by Lars Porsenna »

In other news, the announcement of the discovery of Gliese 581g has fired up the imagination: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581_g

Like Ryloth in the SWU, it is tidally locked, with a hot day side, cold night side, and possibly an "inhabitable" twilight zone between the two!

It's cool when science & SF intersect...

Doing some further reading on the subject, surface gravity could be as much as 1.59Gs, which I think puts it out of useful colonization range (ISTR that humans have serious health issues when living under sustained gravity of more than 1.5Gs due to body size/mass -- chickens do better however!)...

Sure, regular humans. But genetically modified humans, perhaps stouter with stronger bones and more muscle -- call them ... dwarves? -- might fair better. :)

I prefer to call them "Squats." They'll create a craftsman culture based partially on the influences of the Hell's Angels, and the motorcycle culture of the US. They will then be eaten by an alien intelligence that biogenerates vast hordes of...

...I'm not sure I like where this is going...
