Yes:
Automatic Failures and Successes: A natural 1 (the d20 comes up 1) on a saving throw is always a failure (and may cause damage to exposed items; see Items Surviving after a Saving Throw). A natural 20 (the d20 comes up 20) is always a success.
Before you make your save, should we try and get Tholyr and the apprentices to where Clegg is to see if there is any other assistance he could offer? Like a divine caster, potions, scrolls, etc?
Jonkga wrote:Also, how long has it been since Tholyr and the apprentice mages were bitten by the tentacle-lions? How are they looking? Does it look like things have progressed, or do they look ok for now?
Tholyr, the hale and hardy dwarf that he is, looks much stronger. Both the apprentices and Tholyr need to make Fort saving throws (DC 13).

Actually, you should save the Hero point. Your bonus is +5. I'll spend a hero point to give you a +4 bonus. Then, use your hero point if you need to re-roll. Then your almost assured of making it.

Then I think the consensus is to gather up our band of adventurers and apprentice mages and move en masse down the road to the harbor, trying to catch Clegg's group before they head to the crater. Jheru will advocate being loud and carrying fire with us - lots of torches, etc., so that we seem rather formidable and can be seen/heard from afar. This way, Clegg's band may hear us, and natural creatures might leave us alone.
Jheru will also suggest setting alight the broken buildings of Witchlight that are dangerous and not filled with anything of value anymore just as a precaution as we leave. perhaps leaving the tower and its contents so that in the future it may be repaired if possible.
If we get to the Harbor and Clegg has left for the crater already, we can follow the path we took to the crater previously, which as a pretty direct route is probably the route Clegg and his men have taken and try to meet up with them there.
After that, we can move the entier combined party either back to the Harbor or to wherever we can make a safe base camp to hole up for the night safely, and then make our plan for where to investigate the next day.
Does everyone agree that's probably what we've decided as a group?

Yes.

Clegg and company have already fled the harbor, retreating into the forest on their way to the crater.

Right. Jheru still stands by this idea. First, sticking to the road to the harbor is perhaps the safest route across the island. Second, Clegg won't find anything at the crater, so there's a chance we will meet up with them if they head back to the harbor. Third, it still isn't inconceivable that we'll catch up with them following this route. Fourth, the path that we took to the crater, and Clegg's men are probably following, is the most direct route to the crater from the harbor - if we keep using that it will probably be the easiest path through the forest vs. trailblazing a new path. Fifth, from our vantage, we saw them head to the forest after the attack - realistically we don't know for sure if they are heading for the crater for sure, or if they are holing up to lick their wounds. To be most sure we meet up with them, Jheru would suggest not skipping a detour to the harbor.
