I think he looks pretty good! But his magical items may need to be tweaked. As is he has a 25 AC. If Kalib can't have a 25, Alaric can't either!

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
You don't have anything listed under Feats. Are you still deciding? With this build Alaric should get 6 Feats (since you aren't doing variant human). You couldn't have used all 6 for stat bumps, right? Hmm, by my calculations you should have 2 feats available with your stats where they are.
But in terms of leveling, this is exactly how I would do it for a fighter/pally. 8 levels of fighter gets you your 7th level archtype ability and then a feat. 9 levels of pally gets you your 8th level feat/stat bump and then 3rd level spells at 9th. Nicely done!

Also, don't forget to add your Remarkable Athlete bonus to Initiative. That will give you another +3 for a total of +4.

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
Also, your Aura of Protection bumps your saves by your Charisma modifier. So your Saves would be:
Str +13
Dex +4
Con +12
Int +3
Wis +4
Chr +6
Str +13
Dex +4
Con +12
Int +3
Wis +4
Chr +6

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
THe only stat bumps I've done are the ones that come with the fighter build, so I haven't taken any feats. I don't think I need more stat bumps, maybe a little more into CHA...EvilGenius wrote:You don't have anything listed under Feats. Are you still deciding? As for AC he gets a +1 bonus from his fighting style & all the rest is armor. I suppose I could back off the armor bonus by 2 to give him +1 plate & shield...
Magic items are what I could remember. I can't find his character sheet so this is all from memory. Stats FREX are simply built from lvl 1 on up. I DO recall the Javelin of Lightning though, which he used during the Giants Campaign. I dunno what would be "appropriate" magic items for a 17th lvl character though. Can't remember what guidelines we had. Something that can be worked on later...
Damon.

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
Kalib had a bunch of armor, too. +2 Half plate, +2 shield, +2 dex and +1 fighting style. Ken said...
After which I adjusted Kalib's items to be +2 half plate, no pluses on shield, dropped his dex score and kept the fighting style for a final AC of 20 (with the option to go higher through spells or use of his Battlemaster maneuver).I think we need to be careful about how high we go with Armor Classes. AC 25 *really* high; Balors and Pit Fiends only have AC 19. An ancient red dragon is AC 22. Heck, quickly looking through Monster Manual the only monster I found with an AC that high was the Tarrasque.
Hmmm. A 5e grudgematch between Kalib and the Tarrasque would be amusing...

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
Probably because Alaric is a historical figure and came up in a search engine query. Same thing happen for Benjen (as in Stark)

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
While I agree that AC 25 is high...
Armor +2 = very rare
Weapon +2 = rare
shield +2 = rare
Javelin of lightning = uncommon
So on the other hand... this along with two more uncommon magic items is the breakdown for a 17th level character in a high magic campaign... DMG pg 38.
It's close to the list Nate found for us:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Y-e8 ... FVQ2c/view
which says 2 uncommon, 1 rare, and 1 very rare.
So maybe downgrade the shield? Replace it with something fun?

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
Limiting the number range is, overall, a very good thing. It does have a few weird side effects.
Non-magical full plate and a shield gives you AC20 off the bat. You could conceivablyget that at 1st level. Even though +2 armor is only very rare and a +2 shield is rare, plate and shield with 4 +s is uberpowerful.
I think that the shorter number range makes an item like full plate veeery powerful, all on its own, without being magical.

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
Well, and ancient black dragon starts at +15 to hit, and so will hit AC 25 55% of the time.
I don't think it's unreasonable for a 17th level fighter/paladin to have +2 full plate and a +2 shield. He's giving up any Dex bonus to AC, needs at least a 15 Str just to not take a movement penalty, will have disadvantage on Stealth, and the combo takes up 71 lbs worth of his encumbrance.

Re: Alaric Conversion to 5e
Yeah, I agree with you Nate. I also didn't think that AC 25 was unreasonable for Kalib, a 20th level character. But Ken wants us to be able to do more than fight Woryx.
I guess we need Ken to weigh in. We've been working on conversions for a while and we've gotten a little bit of high level play experience. Maybe that changes things?
